My Dog Is Old And Senile

Fri Nov 9, 2012, 5:39 AM
  • Listening to: Adam Lambert
  • Reading: Your mind
  • Watching: Youtube documentaries ... on murder! Yaay! 8D
  • Playing: With TVPaint

After a long, strenuous day at college animating from 10am through 'til 8pm, I finally get home and am delighted to find that Kjartan hasn't pissed in his kennel despite being unsupervised all day ... Then once we get back from his walk he throws up all over the floor...

Whyyyyyy, boy?! You had twenty minutes to puke to your heart's content all over the grass!!

At least he had the decency to do it before I have my shower. Now if you'll excuse me ....

... Eugh.

That's almost as good as diarrhea right on the walking trail. Gotta love our dogs though, right?

They're furry Picasso! I just hope no one in the art departments at both our schools get that as an abstract idea.... ugh...

My cat is 18 years old. (Read: Elderly as Rocks) She will complain at the top of her lungs, at 3 am , that someone hasn't petted her for a while. Or her water dish is empty. Or she's hungry. Or she just wants to see us stumble out bleary-eyed in our pyjamas for the sheer joy of it.

If she were an elderly lady she'd be the one who sits complaining to you about youngsters these days never doing anything right, who then goes and shoplifts penny candy from the corner store because she darn well feels like it.

tl;dr
I FEEL YOUR PAIN.

Get her a stick so she can shake it at you when she's unhappy with the service!

Oh god, now I'm picturing my cat leaning on a cat-sized cane and complaining about young whipper-snappers and their tomfoolery.

Aww, that is so sweet. Thank god apart from the barking like mad my dog is actually a lot less of a paradox to look after, he's just so full of energy for a ten-year old dog a lot of people assume he's still a puppy until we tell them otherwise. The panicking and peeing everywhere is a new thing in his old age.

Sorry to hear that. Norwegian buhunds are awesome. I'm wondering, is he imported? He has a Norwegian name, as well? (I'm Norwegian ;) )
Good luck!

We got him as a pup from a breeder in the Netherlands, one of only four Buhund breeders there. So I guess he's not really Norwegian. =P But yes, the name is from a Norwegian names website, the breeders insisted we choose a name native to Norway.

We've had three cats in the past (thankfully, not all at the same time) who had tummy troubles. Let's just say, I'm well acquainted with several types of carpet clenser.

One day you'll look back on these moments and miss them. So enjoy it while you can. :)
Currently, I am enjoying every moment I have left with my rats, because I know after these I cannot afford to adopt new ones anymore. Thankfully since they were operated for tumors at a young age, no new tumors have appeared on them. So my last rats(for now) might live to be quite old.

I once knew of a cat who was 20+ years old. She was deaf and had nearly no teeth left due to a eating condition which caused her to barf a lot, corroded her teeth.
But the reason why she had to be put down was because she could go on the litterbox anymore. She had to be helped manually with losing her wastes, which is pretty sad.

My last dog didn't do that. She died of a tumour. It was so sudden. But she was an older dog. I miss her. And I hope your dog is okay.

Our dog tends to look for hard surfaces like the bathroom tiles or the faux marble in the hallway. He has enough experience to know that hitting anything fuzzy is insta-gestapo.

My dog was like that for a few years before he passed away at 18. He could still get up and walk around and do everything he needed to, but he was about as blind and deaf as a dog can get. The sad part is he didn't even die from "old age". A car hit him. :(

I know what that's like, and it's painful. but at least he knows you still love him to death. all you can do is go about it as if he were a puppy and pick up after him, he thanks you for it too. I wish you the best of luck with him and hopefully he gets some what better about peeing and puking in some areas.

Out of curiosity, how do you pronounce his name?
