It's Happening!!

Journal Entry: Wed Feb 13, 2013, 10:21 PM
Louis is starting to talk!

It's happening!

For those asking, I'm animating directly into the computer using a Wacom tablet. The animation program I'm using is TVPaint Animation 10 Pro. Super expensive so I use the school computers, but it's like the illegitimate love-child between Photoshop and Adobe After Effects without Flash's niggling tendencies to crash every ten minutes. That program is sex. <3

WOW you are the firts one I hear saying that TVP is sex !
All the people I know say that it's a real pain-in-the-ass-really-not-intuitive-even-if-it-is-full-of-possibility software.
I keep telling them that once you're used to the thing it's cool but no one believed me so far ;)

anyway, good luck for your student short, I've walked in this shoes and even if my project was WAY less ambitious (plus I had partner) my wrist still remember the 1111 clean to do in one fucking week to match the planning \o/

Oh good lord. It'll be a miracle if I even reach the clean-up stage. x___X From what we were told TVPaint is quite popular in the industry, and frankly all of us in 2D LOVE it! ... Those of us already comfortable with tablets, that is. :P

Eeeeee that's super exciting! It's really cool that you put up some of the sessions you have with the voice actors. I love getting to hear how you all bring the project together! It cracks me up every time someone brings up Brendan's height and he's all, "Oh it's on Richard! You want war, you got it!" xD Also, Richard's impression of Scooby's voice was amazing - had me in stitches! Good luck, and remember to massage your hand often! when mine cramps up I ice it then massage it which helps sometimes

I believe in you Sak! You can do it! :iconcheerplz:
Despite all that may happen from here to the day this project is due, when it gets down to when you must turn it in, some miracle will happen and you'll have it done. And I'll have to mention this program to my digital graphics teacher, because we have some horrible animation program.

Definitely suggest TVPaint. If you search for the animations made by the French animation company "Goblins" (such as Pyrats from 2006, or the short 'I Am A Monster') you can get an idea of the sort of stuff you can do with it. It's AH-MAH-ZING.

Oh man I've been wanting to play with TVpaint ever since I heard of it! It's so expensive though and my school doesn't have it :( We have toonboom, but I haven't had a chance to play with that much either. le sigh..

Can you tell me more about how awesome TVpaint is, if you've got a bit? I might spring for it if I ever have money.

I'd suggest looking for tutorials on YT to get a better idea of how the software works, as I'm not the best at it myself, and don't really have the time to explain too much about it. =/ But it is really great for cutting down animation time, as it gets rid of the annoying step of having to scan in the pages and then compile them before you can check how your in-betweens look.

Ohh, I have an addition of TVPaint, I should try using it instead of Flash. Stupid program managed to delete it's own ability to save new files, and I haven't had the time to uninstall it and reinstall it. Even MY professors hate Flash, but that's what we have to work with XD I'm excited that you say it's a lot like Photoshop, I've been using that for years and love it. I've only used the TVPaint program to put together stop motion recordings, so this should be interesting.

Can't wait to see your finished animation, just the little tidbits you've shown us via screenshots look awesome.

TVPaint is so great, I wouldn't be able to do lip-syching without it. I struggle a lot with timing and in-betweens sometimes, but the ability to instantly scrub back and forth without needing to scan and compile scanned images cuts my production time in half, and I need all the help I can get with this project, really.

The only 2D animation program I've used is Flash(and I don't like it). It works similar to TVPaint from the looks of it... and frankly, a lot of digital animation programs are similar(Maya, After Effects, Flash, Toon Boom, etc). Flash and Toon Boom seem to be the only programs still used for 2D here in the US, at least from what I've seen. 2D animation is technically a dying profession here... so sad.

From what I've heard TVPaint is rapidly taking over the industry, and companies like Ubisoft and LucasFilms use it for animating actions that are later rendered over using 3D models. Besides animation it can also be used for storyboarding, which is another major use for it in the industry.
