“You, engineer.”

The man had little time to jump let alone register the source of the rasping, scything voice before a small object was tossed unceremoniously onto his desk. It landed with a metallic clatter and several spindly limbs—where those legs?—twitched before it shuddered still with a defeated hiss. The engineer stared at it, eyes wide.

“What is it, My Lord?”

Lord Laz’ab sneered, nose wrinkling and veins pulling as the corner of his lip curled upwards to expose the discoloured gums and jagged teeth beneath, “A Widow,” he peered over the man’s shoulder at the object, somewhat less intimidating than it had been now that the glowing lights had died out. “One of Darth Bi’ev’s. Less unpredictable than Tholgeth’s, but no less dangerous. He gave it to me.”

“He just gave it to you?” The man turned to gawp and the Twi’lek raised both tattooed brows in a dry growl.

“You sound surprised. Didn’t think your Master was capable of subtlety?” The sudden thrash of a lek down Laz’ab’s back betrayed that it was taking all his willpower to uphold said ‘subtlety’, and with a gulp the engineer bit his tongue. The glare softened slightly, but not the disapproving scowl.

“Pick it apart, find out how it works. I want you to learn how to neutralize the damn things, find me antibodies for the poisons, stims to combat the hallucinogens. I want no part of this thing left untouched, right down to its programming!” He didn’t have to ask twice. Already the engineer was rushing to contact the rest of his team. The Twi’lek turned on his heels, pausing just before the door to shoot him another little look over his shoulder.

“And then, when you’re done with that … then I want you to make them for me.”

:iconlesatho: designed some Widows for Darth Bi'ev and Tholgeth, small spider-droids used in torture and interrogation. Not to be outdone by his most hated rival, Laz'ab got his hands on one and quickly produced his own.
