Today the 2nd and 3rd year animation students had a Master Class, which means we come in on a Saturday from 10a.m. until usually around 4-5p.m. and listen to guest speakers teach us additional information about animating. This time the guest speaker was one Davide Benvenuti, who's animated animal locomotion in everything from Lion King 2 to Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and now works at Ubisoft, Singapore. These were the notes I took on the six-hour session, uploaded for my classmates who couldn't draw fast enough.

Still think it's easy animating?

uhmm.. ma'am, i have went through your works & i was wondering... are you an artist member in a famous studio or company, & which country?!!..... my point is its been my dream to major in animations & comics since i was very young, especially animation, if not then its comics (although i don't know if animation & comics are related!!!).... since then i have been developing character's designs & stories, i even made alot of doodles & mini comics.... i am a self-taught art girl when i was a child but still i need to learn more on drawing character movement & anatomy!! same thing goes to backgrounds layouts, animals & robots, etc ... the thing is i am a 2nd year student at ACAD in Alberta, Canada... i thought that there would be animation classes or studios at the college, but regrettably not. i made alot of research about the universities & colleges in Canada before i immigrate there, but the least i found is ACAD!! up until now i have been studying fine arts, art-history & postmodernism!!!!!!......although i enjoyed the classes because they are new to my cultural experience yet it isn't what i am looking for!!!!! i am not complaining but i have been wasting time not practicing in animation & doing fabric, glass, jewelry & other fine arts & which holded me back couple of years!!!! but atleast if there was an animation college with degree believe me i could have registered without hesitation!!!.....so my question is: i am wondering if i could find an English speaking country that has animation schools after college or during work that accepts Canadian nationality?!!!or more clearly, is there a way to train under your teachings while working with the other staff at the studio?!!!.... the problem is, i need to practice on drawing cartoon characters & my college doesn't afford that!!... furthermore, i have noticed that there are artist on deviantart that are working for Disney, DC & Marvel Comics, Dreamworks & even neckolodion studios!!!.. my hope is to work beside them, gain experience & make my own animation & movies in the near future!!!

No, I'm not currently working for any major company. I'm also a student in an art college, but I was specifically looking for an animation course. I previously tried UVic in Canada myself and discovered the same thing, that they lacked what I was looking for. Instead of sticking around I dropped out of the course after three months - I didn't fail, just wiped the slate clean, as though I'd never been there - and went back to Singapore where I'd been living for the past 8 years. Canada and the USA are big countries, though, there are definitely animation courses that would be able to teach you what you're looking for if you just do some research, I think.

I keep thinking animating is easy if I go by the puppet method...
