Have you tried the thumbnail thing? Just draw the design small and blocked out and make sure it has an interesting silhouette - if the silhouette isn't interesting then there's no way the final character will be. After that just start drawing over it/erasing it to show the details. It's tough as hell and I hate the thumbnail process, but sometimes it gets easier and more ideas come to you.
If you think you can do it, he's behind you 100%. He'll even help so you know how to do it.
His greatest pleasure is when his students blow his mind.
And Lost. He likes Lost.
I love the blue colors. The gold is nice too, and I've always liked gold, but the blue seems like something you could stare at.
Or like, night and day shift workers. Gold in the daytime, when it's bright to blend in/stand out and generally BAM! into your eyes with awesome gold, and blue at night to hide in the shadows and sneak up and FWA! shock you.
Or is it that you'll be learning to do the feathers while you render the robot?
Either way good luck with it. I wasn't the best student in class. Mediocre at best. Computers just aren't my thing.
