"Oh god, there's two of them!"

Over the course of Louis Despatis's character development, I've been receiving several comments from people on DeviantArt pointing out similarities between my dandy pirate Captain from 'Honour Amongst Thieves' to the characters Dorian and Klaus from Yasuko Aoike's running manga 'From Eroica With Love'. At my friend ~Alasse-Tasartir's prompting - who's been dying to see me attempt to draw in a Japanese style - I finally caved and drew the thing.

... Never again. That hair just about killed me.

I'm sure every artist who has ever produced an original character can sympathise with me when I say that it gets very tedious to constantly have that character compared to others. Unfortunately, it's always going to happen, because it is almost impossible to come up with something entirely new and novel in this day and age. In my case as well, I am not a fan of manga and anime, mostly because of aesthetic reasons but also as a result of cultural barriers, I'm sure. To have Louis compared to a character from a manga such as Dorian was a little unnerving at first, but this picture is an attempt to laugh at it and take the piss at my own circumstances; it's the only way to deal with these sorts of things.

Besides, these two would probably get along very well.

WOW....just wow...
and i know, i really hate when people compare characters... but yes it will allways happen, oh well!
but its great you take it this way, i mostly get pissed...ironicly though, I have a character that reminds me of Louis, but dont worry, its mostly the blond hair and clothes they wear XD nothing more, they are quite different specially in face features(and mine is not gay lol)
any way! im a fan of you and your work! keep it up! ;D

You did a great job! Regardless of what you said in the post, not everyone needs to like anime/manga. Your drawings remind me of every american cartoon/cultural aspect I have ever seen. IT's a compliment if anything. I love your style.

I did stories years ago about monsters going to school and college. Really wish I would have sold the stories since out of nowhere Monster High popped up and an anime series named Rosario + Vampire in Japan .... I thin I even started writing it before Scooby went to the monster school, too, but no one would understand my scribbling at the time.

I did do some digging into Eroica and I found that. Louis was the product of several months of development and his final appearance was the result of a lot of different influences, but not one of them was Robert Plant. Funny how two entirely different people with two entirely different concepts can arrive at a very similar end result.

I am immensely worried about a movie idea that is floating around with Disney right now about a young male who is a cartoon raised by human parents -- using similar logic behind Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I'm extremely worried about this because I created an OC years and years ago who is a young male cartoon raised by human parents, and it is the story of his struggle dealing with life and growing up, etc. If this movie becomes a reality, GUESS WHAT, I get to be called the copy cat. And if it weren't an important character to me, well maybe I could just poo-poo, but he's one of my "big 3," -- you know, the ones you draw over and over again and are a part of your soul now. At this point, all I can do is selfishly hope that movie never makes it to the --pardon the pun -- drawing board. I don't think I could cope with the accusations I'd surely receive.

And that was my contribution to your artwork lol.
