I was so torn between which of Lesatho's lovely characters to draw as a birthday picture, because she makes so many interesting ones! Eventually it fell to a draw between her two TOR toons I've had the privilege to meet, her dashing cyborg of a smuggler Birdy, or her sexy and wily Imperial Agent Caspira.
Caspira won out even though both of their pinups were equally scintillating if only because her latest dialogue with my Sith Inquisitor made for an interesting screenshot. Originally he never laid a hand on her and kept his distance, but I thought I'd amp up the creep-factor.
Hope you like it, Lesatho! Hope you have a great day on your birthday!
--- [RP excerpt] ... After several moments he straightens up again, and mutters darkly, "Who is it, then?"
Caspira retains that unimpressed look - despite the slightly concerning interruption, "If I tell you, you can't just go haring off, lightning bolts zipping from your fingertips. This is going to take some finesse to arrange."
Laz'ab shakes is head once more in an attempt to clear it, before a smile creeps back across his face. His attitude changes completely and he relaxes, clasping his hands together behind his back as he considers her.
"Cipher Twelve, we've both been playing these games long enough to know that you wouldn't be standing here telling me this if you didn't think I was capable of 'finesse'." He tilts his head in an imploring gesture, brows raising in an almost arrogant 'Am I right?' expression.
Does Laz'ab have less of a problem with touch as long as he's the one making contact (and not the one *being* touched)? It has seemed that way from your pictures, but it still seems like a rare event. Well, outside of the interrogation room xD ...And if so, is he picky about only touching clothing or hair or something (as opposed to direct skin-skin contact)? I've always loved the expressions and body language in this pic, btw! Caspira has a lot of guts to hang around Laz so closely.
It's all about the control, and so long as Laz'ab feels like he has the upper hand he is usually very comfortable with a lot of things he might otherwise object to. Being in familiar surroundings, having superior status, or being with people he "trusts" - so much as can be said for him - all fall under this category.
At the time this was drawn he was still unfamiliar with Caspira and had only just met her, and in fact in the RP log I don't believe he touches her very much, only so long as it serves his purpose in intimidation and manipulation. Almost a year down the line Caspira and Azil'mort are the only two people he can stand to be touched by, but they both keep their distance on account of you can never tell when he's okay with it, or when he's likely to bite your hand off for trying.
Oh, that makes sense! And those two are smart to keep their distance! Not that they do it adequately xD If I had to be in the same room with Laz'ab for any reason, I'd be on the frigging other side avoiding anything that could be construed as eye contact...
Having the upper hand/being of superior status - are those also things that will lead him to target and attack someone? (Or does he mostly just kill who the Empire hands him?) Because I know you mentioned he'd beat up the younger version of himself in a heartbeat, given the chance.
He'd beat up the younger version of him if the younger version of him got on his nerves, which would likely happen because slaves to the Empire are whiny, rebellious little sh*ts that get in your way. Laz'ab doesn't just out and attack someone, that causes trouble. Unless he's having a bad day or a relapse of extreme violence as a result of his paranoid schizophrenia, he chooses his victims carefully. He also prefers torture to killing; he is asexual and impotent, but putting others through pain gives him a kick sex no longer can.
Younger Laz was whiney and rebellious? xD That's a funny image... I guess I imagined him to be more the type to keep his head down - but perhaps that's just b/c with the circumstances you described for him back then, that's what most people would do.
Makes him more interesting, that he prefers torture to killing! He must get off more on the emotional trauma than the physical side in that case. Which makes sense if he can sense emotions, since it can be fun for even regular people to press each other's buttons - and torture would be the most extreme end of that.
Btw, I know you've mentioned you don't think Laz is pretty before, and I finally put my finger on why I think he is (b/c you're right, he shouldn't really be) - he's pretty in the exact same way that a snake can be pretty. When you see a snake unexpectedly, your stomach curdles and your spine arches, and you have this strong visceral, "EW!! GROSS! KILL IT!" reaction. But in another sense, when it's safe, you can also appreciate kind of the dark allure and beauty of a snake. Laz is like that. That, and you didn't design him to be wholly unappealing (I don't think anyone is debating whether or not Sidious is attractive xD)
Getting off on other's emotions is something I play with heavily in RP, especially since Force sensitives like Jedi and Sith are very conscious of these things. It's one of the reasons he enjoys getting under Caspira's skin - she annoys the hell out of him, but when he can get her back the victory is sweet and he just likes to sink his teeth in deep, metaphorically speaking.
I can see what you mean there. While Twi'leks in SWTOR look so much more attractive than the traditional males in the film, I never intended for Laz'ab to be pretty/attractive/hot etc. especially not with how skinny, twisted, grotesque, veiny, slimy etc. he's really supposed to be. I appreciate it when others can recognize my attempts to make him undesirable. People who find him "sexy" or "want to do him" just creep me out.
Haha xD Well, I'm not one of them, but I think you should go easy on them. I think another part of it is that people have a strong evolutionary drive to be attracted to whatever is powerful. (Because those that aligned themselves successfully with powerful individuals, survived and likely more of their offspring survived too b/c they'd have more food and better shelter, etc.) That probably explains why there are fans out there for just about every villain in fiction ever... Also, they're not in your head xD They don't know Laz like you do. I think there are probably a LOT of things that would turn people off in person (ticks, body language that is just plain *off*, that sort of thing) that just can't come out in pictures. Those things totally crack me up though!! That and his childishness. I'm totally going to draw him w/ my OC Just don't hold your breath xD I'm slow.
I'm referring to the people who get off on the thought of Laz'ab ravaging them while putting a hole in their gut ... which will never happen, anyway, because Laz is asexual and can't get it up. He also tends to just outright kill masochists, because if people start to enjoy what he's doing it's no longer fun for him. But of course it's not that big a deal for me; everyone has their kinks, and most people understand who Laz is meant to be. Every fandom has its crazies, I guess.
I look forward to seeing it, just be careful. I've had issues with people who have mis-interpreted Laz'ab before in their art/writing and got annoyed with them. But you seem to have a good grasp on him. And yes, he is a little childish, with some moreso than others. He never had a childhood as such, but sometimes when he's comfortable he lets himself go. He's particularly childish with Azil'mort, whom he trusts enough to do silly things like rolling around, or falling asleep in tall grass, etc.
