Some color swatches for Commodore James Hunter, in his as-of-now finalized design, who may-or-may-not possibly be appearing in the final three-minute animation.
While previously I thought navy blue was the way to go with his character, I'm beginning to have second thoughts. Red was good but seemed to bright for his stern, determined personality, and would make him especially unexciting when lined up with the red of his redcoat military. The browns and blacks (though I'd lighten the shade a tad) are beginning to look more appealing. While they don't allude to his position as Captain/Commodore as clearly as the navy blue does, they reflect his ruggedness the best, suggesting he's a character that doesn't mind a good scuffle. The decorations and his tidiness also suggest he has a good head on his shoulders and isn't afraid of diplomacy either. It may also contrast better with Louis's final color scheme, since he will be in blue.
Red jacket with white trousers and brown hair looks best. Red to show a bit of nationality, white to stand out from the silhouette and brown hair because it's typical of most male heroes. Awesome drawings as usual
5th, 8th & 9th are my favourites. 5th because it's unusual for a hero, but looks very sharp without being "fancy" or flamboyant. 8th because I'm a sucker for nautical colour schemes and men in navy blue. 9th because the colours work well and they're low fuss, like him.
You could maybe pair number 8 with grey/darker trousers? That might make him seem more practical.
I didn't see you try out blue with black. A black coat with blue pants or black pants with blue coat seems like it might be interesting. I feel like you should keep the blue there somewhere because all the brown and black makes him seem gloomy. Commodore Hunter can be slightly cheeky sometimes, and I think you should avoid making him seem so gloomy.
Les Miserables.
