Development sketches of "Conquest" from my in-the-works animation major this semester at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore.

The first of Mama Nature's four children and the first Horseman of the Apocalypse: Conquest. There are two versions of the Four Horsemen, one with conquest in the lead and one with pestilence. While pestilence may have made more sense considering his mother is the embodiment of natural forces, I went with conquest because war doesn't follow pestilence, war follows conquest. Both conquest and war destroy humanity, therefore when personified as Cannibalistic Voodoo children who devour a fat fop it made sense to me.

Right there in the artist's comments.

"Although some interpretations differ, the four riders are commonly[clarification needed] seen as symbolizing Conquest,[1] War,[2] Famine[3] and Death, respectively. The Christian apocalyptic vision is that the four horsemen are to set a divine apocalypse upon the world as harbingers of the Last Judgment.[4][1]" [link]

even though I trust wikipedia as much as I trust a boulder to ballroom dance, what you put is irrelevant to what I said

It is absolutely relevant because it states right there that conquest/pestilence comes before war. Beyond that if you think I'm going to argue with you about my own major you've got another thing coming, because I've got better things to do with my time. I've done my research, my development is justified. Move along and find something else to worry your poor mind over just don't involve me in it.

Even though Baby Death is nearly the most adorable thing ever (Death? Adorable...?!?!), I think I'd have to say that Conquest is my favourite. Also the older versions look very badass. Really appealing!

Is there a particular reason why you didn't include the animal patterns on his scarf-cape thingy in the final concept? I imagine that that must be a real b*tch to animate, but I can't help but wonder.

That is precisely why I didn't include them. I prefer the spotted pattern so I colored a few of them that way, but I never intended to choose those designs for animating. I would have to get each spot exactly the same and in exactly the same place for each frame which would take far too much time and energy.
