Several days ago I had a bad dream where I had to witness a crowd tear Louis down in front of me, completely breaking his spirit until he was in ruins. I woke up sad, and before long I'd drawn a "quick" comic exploring more of Louis's past, when times were rougher. The text at the beginning is in French because I didn't want to distract from the action with what was supposed to be background noise. I realized later that this might make it even more distracting. Many thanks to for the translations, for those interested, here is the script:
Mais qu'est-ce que ça peut bien te faire ? Si tu n'aimes pas ce que je fais, tu n'as qu'à arrêter de fourrer ton gros nez dans les affaires des autres ! Why do you even care? If you don't like what I do, then stop sticking your big nose into other peoples' business!
Ne me parle pas sur ce ton ! Je suis ton père ! Don't you talk to me like that! I am your father!
Oh, vraiment ? Alors maintenant tu es mon père ? Je n'arrive pas à suivre, ces derniers temps. C'est aussi dur savoir combien de fois tu as essayé de me déshériter ! Oh really, now you are? It's difficult for me to keep track these days. It's also tough to keep track of how many times you've tried to disown me!
Comment oses-tu ?! How dare you!
... Et reste ici ! ... And stay there!
Très bien ! Cause toujours ! Fine! See if I care!
Yes, it's the Baroque era and their vanities have electric lighting, because if Tortuga can look like Vegas-meets-Bangkok then why the hell not.
I just adore the final panel. You can see he's living in some form of a memory of those scars, he's facing them as best as he can. It hurts, but he knows he has too.
Can I just say that I love this guy? I discovered this comic series a little while ago and WOW. I have never fallen for an OC so fast. I usually dislike them. But I just love this one and most everybody else in this universe as well. They're all so fleshed out and believable. Oddly enough, it's how eccentric Louis is that makes him believable. ...oops. I rambled.
*sends hug through time, space, and reality to Louis*
